An Introduction To Calligraphy
One of the greatest treasures that lies in Dublin is the Book of Kells. And not only will you see the Book of Kells during this activity, but you will also learn some calligraphy techniques to make your own!
Once you have met your experienced calligraphy teacher at Trinity College, he will take you to see the Book of Kells and show you just how fantastic this old book is. You will have fun while searching for specific details and learn a lot through fun-facts and exciting stories. On your way out, you will also cross Trinity College’s famous library where thousands of old books are kept…
After a 10 minute walk, you will arrive in a beautiful, private area where the activity will take place. This area is somewhat related to Trinity College as it is a beautiful library as well, and a place where great minds gather to discuss certain cultural and historical topics. This will be your calligraphy class setting.
After going through a few basic instructions, it will be your turn to start experiencing the art of calligraphy: each member of your family will write his/her name and paint it to make it look like a real medieval masterpiece. And once everyone is finished, these papers will all be assembled to create your own very personal family Book of Kells!
