The Art of Paper Marbling
Have you ever heard of an extraordinary art called Paper Marbling?
If not, or if you have never tried doing it, than this is your chance to get introduced to this unique and fascinating coloring technique.
Paper marbling is the result of a “liquid” design similar to the one seen on smooth marble (hence the name), that has been transferred on an absorbing surface. The tradition of paper marbling probably originated in Japan or Persia, and was first seen in Europe in the 16th century. These patters are very colorful and mesmerizing.
Before you begin this 2.5 hour hands-on workshop, you will meet your private master bookmaker. He has been running a family business that has been going on since 1856 (6 generations!). The bookmaker will first demonstrate how paper marbling is done but soon enough, you will be making your own marble paper.
Once each member of your family is happy with the motifs of their marble paper, each person will make a little book, with leather spine and tie, using their own beautiful marble paper as a front and back cover. The book is your to keep of course, and makes a perfect diary to write about your family holidays in.
Needless to say that this traditional art, as well as the old traditional workshop, will be loved by the children. The beauty of your self-made book will get everyone jealous back home!
