Description

Portugal has a long-lasting tradition of good food, and this family-friendly food tour is your chance to discover it all with your children.

During 2,5 hours, follow your private, expert foodie guide as they takes you through the streets of Baixa and Chiado, 2 lively neighborhoods in the heart of Lisbon, in search of the local culinary delicacies.

During this experience, you will stop in either small restaurants or traditional local food shops in order to taste things like cured meat (ham), local cheese, tinned fish (yes, in Portugal, you can get excellent fish from a can!), pork sandwiches, Ginjinia (an alcoholic beverage only for adults), roasted chestnuts (when in season) and ice cream.

You will also be tasting the very typical (and mouthwatering) pasteis de nata, a local sweet pastry that everyone loves.

Thanks to the energy and knowledge of your private guide, you and your children will learn all about the local street food while having a great time!

FAQ's

Is this a private activity?
It sure is. Your family members will be the only ones participating in this food tour. There will be other people (regular clients) in the boutiques and restaurants you will visit as these are not made private.
How much food will we be tasting?
The quantity of food tasted would be equivalent to a full (normal sized) meal for adults.
Can we choose another area for our food tour?
It will be difficult to organize something kid-friendly in another part of town. The distances might be too long, and the food might not be well-adapted to suit the tastes and needs of children. It is therefore better to stay with this original food tour, which was designed specifically for families.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
Kids under 6 years old are welcome to join. They might not be very interested in all the different stories about food, and might not like some of the food tasted, but they can join. The distances are reasonable, but will be a bit too long for very young children.
Is the food gluten free / can you cope with food allergies or other intolerances?
We can adapt to any food allergy or intolerance as long as this information has been given to us prior to the day of the activity. If information is given during the tour, your guide will do their best to adapt to your needs and tastes.
Can you make kosher food tastings (or any other special meals)?
Yes we can. Here too, please give this information ahead of time so the adapted the tour. It might not be in the same area, and the type of food will probably not be 100% typically Portuguese.
What if it rains?
You will spend most of the time in the shops and restaurants, so if it rains, the tour will be maintained.
Will my teenage children enjoy this experience?
Sure they will. Because it is a private tour, the foodie guide will be able to adapt to the needs and desires of each family member. There might be some additional things that you will taste that teens will find interesting to share on social media!
