Description

The Pena Palace is considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. Standing on top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains and above the charming town of Sintra, this is one Portuguese landmark you shouldn’t miss while visiting Lisbon with your family.

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and your private chauffeur at your hotel and hop on a fully-equipped Mercedes V-Class minivan for an early morning departure to Sintra. After a 1-hour drive (approximately), you will reach the beautiful Pena Palace. An early morning departure is essential to beat the crowds.

At the entrance of the property, hop into a small bus that will lead you directly to the main entrance of the Palace. From there, let your guide take you through its narrow corridors and charming rooms as they tell you all about the history of this iconic monument. A game booklet will be handed out to the children to keep them engaged and entertained throughout the visit of the interior of the Palace.

At the end of the visit, you will still have some time to enjoy the beautiful views and the lush gardens.

On your way down, depending on the time you still have, a stop is planned in Sintra so that your guide can show you the main highlights and curiosities of this charming town.

At the end of the morning, the chauffeur will drive you back to your hotel in Lisbon.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting the Pena Palace at the same time. An early morning departure is essential to avoid the crowds.
How long will we stay in the Pena Palace?
The visit of the interior and exterior of the Pena Palace will take approximately 2 hours. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes to reach Sintra from the city center of Lisbon, so the remaining time will be spent in Sintra.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
When is the best time to visit Pena Palace?
During the summer season and special holidays, there is no best time, as the Pena Palace is always very crowded. Our skip-the-line tickets will avoid long waits in line at the entrance of the property, but unfortunately not at the entrance of the Palace. It is therefore important to make an early start. In April or October, the weather is pleasant and the crowds are manageable: these are perfect times to visit the Pena Palace.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this tour for kids aged 6 or older, because they must know how to read and write in order to enjoy the fun-filled game booklet. But our family-friendly guide will be able to adapt to younger children if necessary.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
The inside of the Pena Palace is narrow, and there are a lot of stairs. Therefore, it is not possible to bring a wheelchair or a stroller.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! This is one of the highlights of Portugal, so it would be a shame to miss this occasion to see the Pena Palace.
