Description

The Mont-Saint-Michel is truly a must see when visiting Normandy with your family. The iconic abbey and monastery on top of the island dominated a medieval fortified town of 50 inhabitants.

Meet your private, fully-licensed chauffeur-guide at your hotel in Bayeux and hop in a luxurious, fully-equipped V-class minivan to reach the Mont-Saint-Michel. After a 1.5-hour drive, you will reach the parking lot, and take a shuttle bus to the island (if time enables it, you can even walk there).

Follow your guide as they take you through the narrow streets of this medieval town, all the way up to the abbey.

After a detailed and fun-filled visit of the abbey and monastery, where many medieval monks used to copy and illuminate manuscripts back in the Middle-Ages before becoming a prison, your chauffeur-guide will take you to Avranches where you will either go see the Scriptorium, a fun, interactive museum where the remaining old manuscripts of the Mont-Saint-Michel are exposed, or a bell factory, one of the very few who still make all kinds of bells, including the huge church bells.

Once this 45 minute visit is over, your chauffeur-guide will bring you back to your hotel in Bayeux.

Attention: A supplement will be added and modifications to the program will be made if pick up and drop off is not in Bayeux.

FAQ's

Is this a private activity?
It sure is. Your family members will have your own private chauffeur-guide and V-class minivan at disposal for the full day. There will be other people visiting the Mont-Saint-Michel, but the workshop will be made private for you and your family only.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (the skipper is not responsible for the children).
How long does it take to drive to the Mont-Saint-Michel?
It takes approximately 1.5 hours to get there from Bayeux, and another 1.5 hours to get back.
Is it difficult to climb to the top of the hill (the abbey)?
It is not overly difficult, but it would not be recommended for people with reduced mobility. Depending on the energy of the family members, the chauffeur-guide will adapt the pace.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this visit for kids aged 6 and up as they have to know how to read and write in order to fully understand the game booklet. Younger children will be accepted, as our mini-vans have booster seats, and our guides will be able to adapt their stories and fun-facts to the ages of the children.
Can we take a walk in the quicksand around the island?
Although you might see people walking in the sand during low tide, it is strictly forbidden to do so, and our chauffeur-guides will never encourage you to do this, because it is very dangerous and unpredictable. Additionally, the tide comes in very quickly (at the speed of a running horse) and accidents often happen.
Will teenagers like this activity?
Of course, they will. The Mont-Saint-Michel is as iconic as the Eiffel Tower, and this is one highlights teenagers will not want to miss. Because it is a privately guided tour, your guide will adapt to the ages of the children and will know how to keep the teenagers engaged.
