Medieval Castles And Quarries
Let past and present unite as you discover the charming medieval town of Les Baux de Provence and the spectacular artistic light show in its abandoned quarries.
What you are about to see are two of the most fantastic sights in the Provence region and they are both located in the quaint little medieval town of Les Baux de Provence.
Meet our private, experienced family-friendly guide and follow him/her as he/she takes you through the very small streets of Les Baux de Provence. Although this village only has 22 inhabitants, it is considered as one of the most beautiful villages in France. As you climb to the top of the hill, your guide will tell you all about the history of this town, and also about the castle dominating the town.
The highlight of the village is its medieval fortress built on top of the hill, offering a beautiful view on the surrounding areas. A great way to spot any incoming enemy during the Middle Ages! Catapults are other curious defensive weapons and mechanisms are also exposed in the castle grounds.
On your way down and past the village, you will stop at yet another remarkable area: les Carrières de Lumières (the Quarries of Light). Set in an abandoned quarry dug within the mountain, this sound and light show is fabulous in every way, both for adults and children. The works of art by selected world famous artists (the projections change every year) are projected on the huge walls of the quarry, turning this dark cave into a fun-filled museum! This is something you will never forget.
