Traveling With Grandchildren – Itinerary
Day 1 – Sightseeing tour
Welcome to London! Awaiting your arrival at the train station or airport will be your very own chauffeur who will look after you throughout your time in London. He will drive you straight to your hotel or apartment in a car that has all the necessary seating and equipment to ensure your kids’ safety.
What better way to spend your first afternoon in this remarkable city than a whirl on the London Eye, the enormous riverside Ferris wheel that provides some of the most breath-taking views of this famous skyline. After that, hop aboard a boat for an easy-going cruise along the River Thames – the river is the city’s lifeblood, and will fill you with an amazing sense of history as you pass by the thrilling variety of buildings and bridges that can be seen from the deck.
A real must for Day 1 in London! Your personal private guide will be on hand to answer questions and tell you stories about the city. After the boat tour, take a short walk with your guide over Millennium Bridge, which connects the Tate Modern Gallery to St Paul’s Cathedral. The tour finishes up on a roof terrace where you will enjoy one of London’s most spectacular views.
At the end of this two-hour tour, you’ll have the chance to spend some time exploring St Paul’s – will you have the energy to climb up the huge dome to make the most of another of London’s most impressive views? Your driver will then scoop you up and take you back to your hotel or apartment for a well-deserved evening’s rest.
Day 2 – A Royal Experience and Chocolate Workshop
After your first breakfast in London, it’s off to Westminster Abbey.
This is your chance to learn all about the Queen, and to relive the recent Royal Wedding by following in the footsteps of Kate and William, who were married at the Abbey Don’t forget to watch the changing of the guards outside Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s London residence – will they be on foot or on horseback? And will they be wearing their famous bearskins?
Your guide will be able to tell you lots of stories about all four generations of the Royal family alive today, from Queen Elizabeth II down to Baby George.
Your royal experience will take you up to lunchtime, at which point your private chauffeur will drive you to your next slice of fun: our chocolate workshop!
Our charismatic Master Chocolatier will meet you and teach you all there is to know about how chocolate came to London, the heyday of the city’s decadent Cocoa Houses, and the rise of the chocolate empire started by Cadbury in the UK. Then it’s over to you to prepare, cut, dip and decorate your own scrumptious handmade chocs!
You will then be able to spend the rest of the evening at leisure after returning to your hotel or apartment.
Day 3 – British Museum and Detective for the Day
First stop on Day 3 is the world-famous British Museum, the best opportunity in the city to jump back in time and feast your eyes on the treasures of the past, including the world’s largest collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts outside Egypt.
Let’s kick things off with a game! Your guide will give you some clues to solve about the museum’s mummies before decrypting the Rosetta Stone. You can also explore the marbles from the Parthenon, and solve some more enigmas from ancient times… a fascinating way to unravel past human mysteries in a truly unique museum. Don’t forget to admire its striking modern design!
In the afternoon, it’s time for a real change of scene… to the scene of a crime!
Join a special police team and use modern forensic techniques to solve a tricky criminal case! You’ll learn about fingerprinting and magnifying glasses… and even taught how to trace footprints. Use them all to catch the murderer! A real Scotland Yard detective will help you with your investigations and ensure that you make Sherlock proud.
Once justice has been served, your private chauffeur will drive you back to your hotel or apartment.
Day 4 – French Lesson and Private Yacht
Today you’ll be saying “goodbye” to London and “bonjour” to Paris! Board the Eurostar at the magnificent St Pancras station, and just a few hours later you will be across the Channel and pulling in to Gare du Nord, where you will be met by an English-speaking driver.
After you have settled in to your hotel or apartment, you will meet your certified French teacher in the afternoon for a fun and interactive beginner’s French lesson. This is the perfect introduction to your stay in Paris. The lesson will be playful and lively, and will focus on Parisian vocab and expressions – both generations will be able to put their new skills into practice straight away!
At the end of the lesson you will cross the River Seine and jump aboard a beautiful Venetian yacht for a magical 1.5-hour cruise.
The whole family will admire the city’s highlights from a totally different angle: the Cathédrale Notre-Dame, the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, the Conciergerie, the Eiffel Tower… there is no better way to see these sights than from the decks of a riverboat!
Once you’re back on terra firma you will be whisked back to your hotel or apartment for some well-earned rest and relaxation.
Day 5 – Treasure Hunt at the Louvre and Impressionist Workshop
Have you ever heard of the Louvre? After today you will have! This is the perfect way to explore the city’s foremost museum and learn about its many masterpieces.
Your professional guide will meet you on arrival and get you started on our exciting two-hour treasure hunt. We know museums can be quite hard work for kids, so we’ve designed a tour full of games and surprises. Our guides are specially trained to conduct perfectly interactive and engaging visits for kids and adults alike.
You will see a variety of art works, and each time your guide will make a short introduction before giving the children time to solve the clues and answer the different puzzles in their activity books. Will you be able to discover the final treasure? This private guided tour includes express tickets to the Louvre, an entertaining notebook and a gift to enjoy at the end.
After a bite of lunch, you will head across the Jardin des Tuileries to reach the Musée de l’Orangerie. Your art instructor will meet you there to guide you and your family through an Impressionist art class. She will show you Monet’s famous giant Water Lilies, and explain the pointillist techniques and iconic visual effects to your kids.
After a quick visit, it’s a quick taxi ride to St Germain des Prés for your art class – this is your chance to experiment on your own with your new-found artistic skills. Two hours later you will have had loads of fun producing an Impressionist family masterpiece to take home with you.
Once you have washed the paint off your hands, your private chauffeur will drive you back to your hotel or apartment.
Day 6 – Medieval Paris and Patisserie Baking Class
You’ll be picked up from your hotel or apartment after your petit déjeuner and taken to the Musée de Cluny, the city’s medieval museum, for a walking tour.
Our professional guide will be on hand to take you through our “Paris and the Knights” tour. Time to follow in the footsteps of the ancient city’s knights and damsels, exploring sites dating back to the Middle Ages for two hours of full historical immersion.
You’ll visit Notre Dame and the Musée de Cluny, winding along the narrow streets past ancient medieval half-timbered houses. This private walk includes tickets to the museum and of course plenty of medieval games and a notebook.
In the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to discover why France has such an amazing reputation for its cuisine with a trip to our cooking school for a delicious pâtisserie class.
Our chef will take you for a short culinary walk around the best gastronomic shops in the arrondissement. After that it’s back to the base for a chance to bake some delicious, traditional desserts. You will have the chef all to yourselves, so you will be free to ask any questions and learn from his fantastic savoir-faire. Let’s cook!
Day 7 – Montmartre
After breakfast, you’ll head to the bottom of Montmartre for one last Parisian tour before returning home.
There you will have the chance to discover one of the most quirky and interesting parts of Paris – the “village de Montmartre”. Once upon a time the village was entirely self-sufficient. It had mills for making bread, vineyards for its own wine, churches and a cemetery, several famous cabarets, and – of course – its colourful cast of famous inhabitants.
Are we really still in Paris?! A series of clues and games over this two-hour tour will let you answer this question for yourselves. This activity includes a game, an entertaining notebook and tickets to the Musée de Montmartre.
At the end of the tour, our chauffeur will pick you up and drive you to your hotel or apartment to gather your luggage and then head to the airport or train station.
