Description

What you are about to see are two of the most fantastic sights in the Provence region and they are both located in the quaint little medieval town of Les Baux de Provence.

Meet our private, experienced family-friendly guide and follow them as they take you through the very small streets of Les Baux de Provence. Although this village only has 22 inhabitants, it is considered as one of the most beautiful villages in France. As you climb to the top of the hill, your guide will tell you all about the history of this town, and also about the castle dominating the town.

The highlight of the village is its medieval fortress built on top of the hill, offering a beautiful view on the surrounding areas. A great way to spot any incoming enemy during the Middle Ages! Catapults are other curious defensive weapons and mechanisms are also exposed in the castle grounds.

On your way down and past the village, you will stop at yet another remarkable area: les Carrières de Lumières (the Quarries of Light). Set in an abandoned quarry dug within the mountain, this sound and light show is fabulous in every way, both for adults and children. The works of art by selected world famous artists (the projections change every year) are projected on the huge walls of the quarry, turning this dark cave into a fun-filled museum! This is something you will never forget.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. There will be other people visiting the castle, the village and the quarries as these places are not made private for your family.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
How far is the castle from the quarries?
It's a very quick walk from the bottom of the village to the quarries, but it is better to go there by car as there is no dedicated pedestrian path that link the two.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this tour for kids aged 6 or older, because they will be fascinated by the stories about this medieval castle, and they will enjoy the quarries. But younger children are also welcome and will be entertained just like their older siblings.
What happens if it rains?
The tour will take place, even if it rains. Just make sure you bring an umbrella or rain jacket.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Yes they will!
