The Roman Heritage Of Arles
Travel back some 2,000 years ago and discover Arles’ beautiful roman heritage sights, from the iconic arena, still used today, to the ancient theater.
Arles was a main Roman settlement some 2,000 years ago, and traces of the past can still be seen today. With an impressive number of roman constructions still standing today, Arles is a great place to immerse yourselves in the heart of Ancient roman culture, architecture and entertainment!
This tour starts with a visit of the fascinating and highly interactive Archaeological Museum of Arles. Located just outside the city center in a modern building, the museum holds an amazing collection of ancient roman remains, from household items to a large merchant boat. The visit lasts a bit more than 1 hour, and will focus mostly on the models of the Theater, the Amphitheater, the Forum and the Thermal Baths. These models are a great way to understand the degree of advancement of the Roman civilization.
Once the visit is over, hop aboard a shuttle bus that will take you to the city center of Arles (5 min). The first visit will be the beautiful Ancient Theater where many different kinds of performances took place back in the day, before they fell out of favor and the monument was abandoned.
The next and final monument seen during this tour is the Ancient Amphitheater of Arles, one of the best preserved ones in the world. From the famous gladiator combats until today, let your private, fully licensed guide tell you all about this monument and its fascinating history.
If you would want to prolong this experience and visit the Forum and Cryptoporticoes, as well as the Thermal Baths of Constantine, let us know and we’ll be more than happy to arrange this for you and your family (supplements apply).
