Van Gogh In Provence
Follow the footsteps of one of the greatest painters of all time and share his feelings, emotions, life and art through a discovery of Arles and Saint-Remy-de-Provence.
In February 1888, Van Gogh took the train in Paris and wanted to join the French Riviera. But the train stopped in Arles for technical reasons, and he disembarked… This is when his time in Provence began… As soon as he arrived at the train station in Arles, Van Gogh immediately fell in love with the city and its particular light.
Follow your private family-friendly guide and follow him/her into the footsteps of the great Post-Impressionist painter. You will spend a full day looking back at his period in Provence, from Arles to Saint Rémy de Provence and compare the present with some of his most famous paintings.
Starting with Arles, you will see where he used to live (“The Yellow House”), where he painted “A Starry Night Over The Rhône” as well as many other places he took his inspiration from. Your kid-friendly guide will add many details and fun facts to make it extra special for the young ones.
From Arles, hop aboard a private minivan and head out to the former mental hospital of Saint Rémy de Provence (Saint Paul de Mausole) where Van Gogh once stayed in. Here too, you will be able to compare his paintings with what remains of the mental institution and its gardens.
Stops along the way are planed for drinks and food (not included) and the pace is perfectly adapted to children. Game booklets are also given to keep your kids fully engaged and entertained.
For a full experience, combine this activity with our Post-Impressionist Art Experience, which is a great hands-on experience that will let you and your family dive into the world of emotions, light and paint, just like Vincent Van Gogh himself.
