Description

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and follow them as they take you back some 800 years ago to a time when knights, dames, monks and beggars roamed the cobblestone streets of Paris. Imagine this now modern city full of dark and narrow streets, horses, blacksmiths, butchers and… a magnificent cathedral.

The tour starts in front of Hôtel de Sens, one of the last medieval mansions still standing. As you make your way towards Notre Dame Cathedral, you will see the ruins of the 12th century fortification wall that once protected the citizens of Paris from possible barbaric invasions, as well as charming medieval narrow streets and houses. All the fun-facts and details given throughout the tour will give you and your family a great idea of what life in Paris was during that period of time.

You will soon be arriving at Notre Dame Cathedral. Built more than 850 years ago, it is one of Paris’ most iconic monuments. Once saved from destruction thanks to Victor Hugo’s famous novel, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, it was recently severely damaged by a fire during which the roof and spire were turned to ashes. As it is closed for renovations, you will discover the fascinating details of the exterior of the monument and its world famous facade.

The tour ends outside the Conciergerie, once a royal palace of the medieval kings and turned into a prison at the time of the French Revolution.

A game booklet keeps each and every child engaged and entertained during this 2-hour walking tour. And if all the riddles have been solved, the children will be knighted in the traditional way.

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit.
Is there a lot of walking during the tour?
Because our tours are designed for families with children, we make sure the distances are not too long. Besides, there are bakeries and ice-cream stores along the way, so you’ll be able to treat your children to something sweet during the tour if you want. That will keep them going!
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a babysitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this walking tour for kids aged 6 or older, because they must know how to read and write in order to enjoy the fun-filled game booklet. Younger kids can join and they will enjoy it, but they won’t be able to play the game, unless a parent or sibling helps.
Will we have to wait in line?
Notre Dame Cathedral is under renovation following the 2019 fire. The monument is therefore closed for an undetermined period of time. There will be no waiting in line as no monument will be visited from the inside.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Yes, since it is mostly an outdoor walking tour, it is stroller and wheelchair friendly. But sidewalks are quite narrow in some streets, and the cobblestones can be quite uncomfortable.
What happens if it rains?
The tour will take place, even if it rains. Just make sure you bring an umbrella or rain jacket. It will only be cancelled if there is a real danger.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will. They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour.
