Description

Meet your private, expert guide and hop on your electric-assisted mountain bikes to reach the Catacombs of Rome, located in the Caffarella Park in the outskirts of Rome.

With safety instructions in mind, and protections worn (helmet), the tour will lead you to the Catacombs along the Ancient Appian Way (a road build during the Roman Empire), using only cycling paths for a safer and more comfortable experience.

The Catacombs is where thousands of people (early Christians) were buried some 2,000 years ago. All the human bones have been removed, but the guide will tell you countless amazing and creepy stories about this sacred burial place. Visits here cannot be private, so you will have to join other people for the visit.

Warning: The tour is 10-11km long, 90% of which off-road (dirt paths and cobblestones). Given the rough riding surface, participation in this tour requires intermediate biking skills (participants should be confident on a bike). If a child cannot ride a bicycle, both the child and a parent will not be able to participate.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Part of it is, and part of it is not. The visit of the Catacombs (underground) is NOT private, and you will have to join a bigger group. But since the catacombs are narrow, groups are limited in size to maintain comfort.
How long and how difficult is the cycling tour?
The length of the cycling tour is about 10-11km (6-7 miles), 90% of which is off-road (dirt paths and cobblestones). The level of difficulty is intermediate for children, and quite easy for adults.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a babysitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 8 years old?
Not at all. There are no bicycles for younger children, and the length will be too long and difficult. We will not accept children below 8, or children who do not know how to ride a bicycle on their own.
Will we have to wait in line?
You might have to wait for a short period of time at the Catacombs, as the entrances are limited. But the waiting time is not very long (20 minutes maximum).
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! There is not one teenager that will not like the bicycle part and the creepy stories inside the catacombs.
