The Storytellers Of Edinburgh

Follow in the footsteps of the most famous writers and storytellers of Scotland.
Cultural Visit
2 hours
Private Certified Guide
Game Booklet included

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and listen to the many tales they will tell as you and your family pass by some noteworthy sites on this 2-hour walking tour.
It all starts with the legend of Greyfriars Bobby, the dog that lived for many years next to the tomb of his beloved master… Let your guide then take you in the footsteps of iconic writers such as Stevenson, author of the world-famous Treasure Island and the infamous Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Arthur Conan Doyle (author of the beloved Sherlock Holmes books) and many more.
Surely your kids are going to love knowing that J.K. Rowling wrote the adventures of Harry Potter in Edinburgh, and they will love seeing parts of the city where she got her inspiration.
On a more intellectual side, everyone will try to understand the theories of David Hume, a Scottish philosopher, when climbing up Calton Hill and enjoying the beautiful panoramic view from there.
To make it even more interesting for the children, they will all receive a fun-filled and educative game booklet. Peter Pan and Ivanhoe won’t have any secrets anymore!
Our Storytellers of Edinburgh is a great way to have your children learn about the literary heritage of Scotland as, during this walking tour, they will learn as much as they will have fun.

Is this a private tour?

Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the walk.

Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?

Although this is designed to keep both parents and children engaged and entertained, children younger than 6 will probably not enjoy it. The walking part is also a bit difficult as there are two hills that need to be climbed. For those reasons, we do not find this tour suitable for children under the age of 6.

Do we go inside certain areas mentioned in the description?

You will be going into the cemetery where Greyfriar’s Bobby is buried, but you will not be going inside any of the houses or places where J.K Rowling wrote the adventures of Harry Potter.

Are the parents staying with the children or separated?

We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).

How difficult is the walking part?

Edinburgh has many hills, and 2 of them will have to be walked up and down. Calton Hill does offer a wonderful view on the city, and going up is really not that difficult for children above 6.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

The tour cannot be canceled and will take place. Just remember to bring an umbrella. There are plenty of areas where you will be able to hide from the rain.

Will my teenage kids like the tour?

Sure they will! They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour. And zho hasn't read, watched, or heard of Harry Potter or Sherlock Holmes?
