Description

Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel) is one of the most iconic monuments of Rome. Originally built as the Mausoleum of Hadrian, one of the 5 most respected Emperors of Ancient Rome, almost 2,000 years ago, this fortress was used by the Popes, and turned into a prison as well, before becoming the monument it is today.

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and follow them into this fascinating fortress. Let them take you to the Ponte Sant’Angelo (the Sant’Angelo Bridge) as well as the small inner courtyard where executions were once held. You will also hear about the Passetto di Borgo, a small elevated passageway linking the Castel to the Vatican, which played a key role in Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons (closed to the public).

And when you get to the top of the fortress, you will enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Rome. Designed for families traveling with teenagers, this live escape game will keep everyone engaged and entertained while learning about the popes, and Castel Sant’Angelo through the ages.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting the Castel Sant’Angelo at the same time.
When is the best time to visit Castel Sant’Angelo?
Even during the busy months of summer, the Castel San’t Angelo is not very crowded, compared to the Vatican or the Colosseum). But to avoid the heat of summer, it is best to book for a morning or a late afternoon discovery.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a babysitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 10 years old?
This experience was designed for families traveling with teens. It is therefore not suitable for children under the age of 10.
Will we have to wait in line?
No. We provide skip-the-line tickets, and because this beautiful monument attracts less than highlights such as the Colosseum, it is generally not very crowded.
Once the tour is finished, can we stay inside Castel Sant’Angelo?
It is possible to stay inside Castel San’t Angelo, but if you exit the main gate, you will not be able to get back in.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Yes, the Castel Sant’Angelo has a wheelchair access to get to the top of the fortress and enjoy the beautiful view. Some parts of the monument are not accessible to strollers and wheelchairs.
