Gold leaf painting is a technique used by the most famous painters of the middle ages, such as Giotto.

Meet your private, experienced art teacher in his charming atelier located near Palazzo Pitti, and let him tell you all about this painting technique, still used today.

After a basic introduction and some recommendations, each member of your family will work on their own creation. Choose a model, and recreate the selected model using paint and… gold leaves.

This art is trickier than it looks as the gold leaves are so thin that they are very fragile and can blow away as you exhale! Nevertheless, it remains a highly interesting and fun-filled hands-on workshop that everyone in your family will love.

At the end of this 2,5-hour artistic workshop, you will leave the atelier with your own copy of an Italian masterpiece.

Is this a private activity?

It sure is. Your family members will be the only ones in the art workshop, along with your private art teacher.

Do the parents participate?

Of course! Everyone will be creating their own masterpiece. That is the fun part!

Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?

It is not really recommended as very young children might get frustrated. Manipulating gold leaves is a challenge as it is very light.

Can I paint something else than a reproduction of a middle-age Italian painting?

The idea of this workshop is to introduce you and your family to Giotto and the middle-age painting technique. But should you want to do something different, you are more than welcome to. At the end, creating a family-bonding moment where everyone enjoys themselves is what matters most.

Do I need to bring special material?

No! You don’t need to bring anything as all the material is prepared for you.

Are we using real gold?

No, this is not real gold, but a thin metallic foil that looks like gold.

Are we leaving the workshop with anything?

Of course, you will leave the workshop with your creations. We will make sure that these aren’t too bulky and heavy, so you can easily put them in your suitcase.

Will my teenage kids like the activity?

If they like arts & crafts, they will love this hands-on activity. If they don't care much for art, then we recommend checking out some of our other activities.
