Description

The Palace of the Popes (“Palais des Papes”), located in the heart of the city of Avignon, is the biggest Gothic palace in all of Europe, and was used by the popes in the 14th century. As a mighty symbol of the church’s influence throughout the western Christian world in those days, the Palace of the Popes is a must see when traveling to Provence with your kids.

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and let them take you through this fascinating fortress. Thanks to many stories and fun facts, you will understand what it was like to be a pope in the 14th century. From the assembly halls for the Conclave, the treasury and the impressive kitchens to the private rooms of the popes and the built-in church, you and your children will enjoy every minute of this privately guided tour.

To make it even more captivating for your children, they will each receive a game booklet. Your guide will also be carrying a tactile screen to show you what is was like to live in the castle back then.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the tour. But there will be other people visiting the palace of course.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this highlights tour for kids aged 6 or older, because they must know how to read and write in order to enjoy the fun-filled game booklet.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide skip-the-line tickets, but on very busy days, there might be a line for security checks which cannot be avoided. The wait will not last long though.
Once the tour is finished, can we stay inside the Palace or go back in?
Once the privately guided tour is finished, you can stay inside the Palace of the Popes. However, it seems unlikely you will want to do that, as this 2-hour tour will cover all the parts of this medieval fortress, leaving nothing unseen.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Yes, the Palace is wheelchair friendly and there are elevators to bring disabled people to the state rooms, so strollers are also welcome. The initial itinerary will have to be changed as not all the rooms are accessible. This might alter the flow of the game booklet for children.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour.
