Description

Meet your private Blue Badge guide by the entrance of the Churchill War Rooms. Along with your guide, discover this historic underground complex that housed a British government command center during WWII. Then, follow your guide through the Churchill Museum, where your family will learn everything about the enigmatic statesman who played a key role in defeating Nazi Germany.

After a quick hop on a Thames Clipper boat (public transportation) and an enjoyable short walk, you will reach the HMS Belfast ship museum, moored on the south bank of the Thames river. Get ready for a special visit through all of its 9 decks! The HMS Belfast is a famous light-cruiser built between 1936 and 1938. Let your guide tell you why she played a major role during WWII and her most historic actions, including escorting Arctic convoys, her implication in the Battle of North Cape and in Operation Overlord (D-Day in Normandy).

To keep the children engaged and entertained, they will each get a fun-filled game booklet.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting both museums during your two visits, as well as other people on the boat during the short cruise on the Thames.
When is the best time to visit the HMS Belfast and the Churchill War Rooms?
The busiest months are July and August. The best time is just before or right after summer, or from November to March if you want to avoid crowds and queues. Both sites being indoors, the visit is enjoyable throughout the year.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you chose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 10 years old?
It’s quite a long tour which involves some walking, plus some of the topics and stories covered concerning warfare might not be suitable for some young children. Therefore, we do not recommend this tour for children under 6.
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide prepaid tickets, but on very busy days, there might be a line for security checks which cannot be avoided. Expect some waiting time especially at the entrance of the Churchill War Rooms (the lines can take up to 30/45 minutes in high season), and unfortunately, the museum does not offer skip-the-line tickets.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Due to the nature of the ship, wheelchairs and strollers can only access the main decks of the HMS Belfast. Thames Clipper boats are accessible by ramp (limited capacity of 4 wheelchairs). The Churchill War Rooms are wheelchairs and strollers accessible throughout.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! These two sites are so iconic, and a selfie from the deck of the HMS Belfast with Tower Bridge in the background will surely create a buzz on social media! Apart from that, the stories and the history of the ship and the Churchill Rooms are fascinating, and even the toughest teenagers will surely listen to what the guide will tell them. They might not be interested in the game booklet though.
