Description

Arles was a major Roman settlement some 2,000 years ago, and traces of the past can still be seen today. With an impressive number of Roman constructions still standing today, Arles is a great place to immerse yourselves in the heart of Ancient Roman culture, architecture and entertainment!

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide in front of the fascinating and highly interactive Archaeological Museum of Arles, which holds an amazing collection of Ancient Roman remains, from household items to a large merchant boat.

After this 1-hour visit, let your guide take you to the city center of Arles (5 min with a shuttle bus or a 15 minute walk) where you will discover the beautiful Ancient Theater. Back in the day, this is where many different kinds of performances took place, before they fell out of favor and the monument was abandoned.

The next and final monument seen is the Ancient Amphitheater of Arles, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. From the famous gladiator combats until today, let your guide tell you all about this monument and its fascinating history.

If you would want to prolong this experience and visit the Forum and Cryptoporticus, as well as the Thermal Baths of Constantine, contact us and we will be more than happy to arrange this for you and your family (supplements apply).

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. There will be other people visiting the museum, the theater and amphitheater though, as these places are not made private for your family.
How far is the Archaeological Museum from the city center?
It is only 5 minutes away with the shuttle bus. You can also walk, but it will take about 20 minutes to reach the Theater. This time is not included in the 3 hour tour, unless you are willing to drastically reduce the time spent in all 3 places.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this tour for kids aged 6 or older, because they must know how to read and write in order to enjoy the fun-filled game booklet. But younger kids are welcome to join, just make sure to keep an eye on them!
Can we stay inside the amphitheater at the end of the tour?
You will spend enough time with your guide in the Amphitheater, so we don’t think you will want to stay longer, but theoretically you can. You will not be able to go back inside if you leave the monument. The same can be said for the Roman theater and the Archaeological Museum of Arles.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Technically, it is possible to bring a stroller or wheelchair. However, there are some places in the Theater and Amphitheater that you will not be able to visit.
What happens if it rains?
The tour will take place, even if it rains. Just make sure you bring an umbrella or rain jacket.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will. They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour.
