Description

Edinburgh Castle is located at the top of a cliff in the heart of the old city, and because it dominates the city’s skyline, it has become the iconic landmark of Edinburgh.

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide at the entrance of the Castle and follow them inside as its fascinating history unravels. Once inside (we provide skip-the-line tickets), let your guide tell you all about Edinburgh Castle and the historic events that have taken place here.

Among the many curiosities you will see are the Crown Jewels. The crown and scepter are kept in one of the oldest parts of the Castle. Also visible is the Stone of Destiny (Stone of Scone), which is still used today by the English Royal Family!

Other interesting areas of the Castle are St. Margaret’s Chapel (the oldest chapel in Edinburgh), the Great Hall and the prisons, as well as a dog cemetery.

To keep the children engaged and entertained, they will each receive a fun-filled game booklet.

ATTENTION: Access to the Crown Jewels and the Great Hall is not granted to guides. Your guide will give you the comments in the courtyard outside, and you will then visit both areas without them.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting Edinburgh Castle at the same time. Please note that guides are not allowed in the Crown Jewels area and the Great Hall. Therefore, explanations will be done outside these two areas, and the visit will be done without the guide.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
When is the best time to visit the Castle of Edinburgh?
To avoid long lines, especially in front of the Crown Jewels, it is best to get there at opening time, and use the skip-the-line tickets to be the first to arrive at the Crown Jewels. This is why we generally start this tour at the opening time.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this tour for kids aged 6 or older, because they must know how to read and write in order to enjoy the fun-filled game booklet. But our family-friendly guide will be able to adapt to younger children if necessary.
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide skip-the-line tickets, but on very busy days, there might be a line for security checks which cannot be avoided. There are no skip-the-line tickets to go see the Crown Jewels once inside the Castle.
Once the tour is finished, can we stay inside Edinburgh Castle?
Once the tour is finished, you can stay inside the Castle and wander around. After all, our 2-hour tour will not cover all the caste (only the highlights) so you can always spend a bit more time to visit these other areas, or go back to places you have already seen. Once you leave the Castle, you will not be able to get back inside.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Strollers or wheelchairs can be brought inside, but some areas will not be accessible for people with reduced mobility.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour.
