Description

D-Day is a turning point in modern history and this kid-friendly full day excursion is the best way to help everyone understand what happened on June 6th, 1944.

Your private, experienced chauffeur-guide will pick you up at your hotel in Bayeux and drive you to many stops related to the Normandy landings.

The first stop is La Cambe German war cemetery, the final resting place of more than 21,000 German military personnel of WWII.

The second stop is the famous Pointe du Hoc, a strategic point located on a 100ft cliff and captured by the Allied forces through a very difficult mission. German bunkers, as well as traces of the bombardment are still very much visible.

The third stop is the infamous Omaha Beach, which cost the lives of many young Allied soldiers. Our expert guide will tell you all about how the landing happened and why there were so many casualties.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Overlord museum, which houses a collection of old tanks and other armored vehicles used during the war.

The last stop is the American Cemetery and the ceremony that takes places every day there.

To make this discovery entertaining and engaging for the children, and to help them understand what D-Day was all about, they will each get an educational game booklet.

At the end of the day, your chauffeur-guide will take you back to your hotel.

Attention: A supplement will be added and modifications to the program will be made if pick up and drop off is not in Bayeux.

FAQ's

Is this a private activity?
It sure is. Your family members will have your own private chauffeur-guide and Mercedes V-class minivan at disposal for the full day. There will be other people visiting the places mentioned above, but no one else will be joining your tour.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (the skipper is not responsible for the children).
How long does it take to drive to Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach?
It takes approximately 45 minutes to get to La Cambe and Pointe du Hoc from Bayeux if there isn’t too much traffic. But in the summer time, it can get busy on the small streets that link all these D-Day areas. It is a 30-minute drive from Pointe du Hoc to Omaha Beach, and a 20 minute drive from Omaha back to Bayeux.
Will we be witnessing the flag ceremony at the American Cemetery?
Yes, this is a magical moment that should not be missed. This ceremony takes place at 4PM in winter and 5PM in summer.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
This visit is interesting for children aged 6 or older, but younger children will be accepted. Our mini-vans have booster seats, and our guides will be able to adapt their stories and fun-facts to the ages of the children.
Do we need to wear something special?
You will be visiting cemeteries of soldiers and those who gave their lives during WWII, so we recommend respectful attire.
What is so special about the Overlord Museum?
The Overlord Museum is one of the best museums, especially for children, as it has a lot of visual items such as the armored vehicles used during WWII. There are a lot of other museums, each having their own specialty, which may or may not be of interest to children. If you wish to visit a particular museum, please contact us to let you know beforehand.
Will teenagers like this activity?
Of course, they will. Because it is a privately guided tour, your guide will adapt to the ages of the children and will know how to keep the teenagers engaged.
