Description

If you really want to have fun during your stay in Edinburgh, and if you want to let out all the energy you have, then why not try our Introduction to Highland Games. It’s physical, it’s fun, and it certainly is very Scottish.

On a field located outside the city center (40min by car, transfer not included), meet your private instructor and learn about the history of the Highland Games and what they are all about. Soon enough, you will be tossing the caber and puttin’ the stane, among other activities.

Once the introduction and games rules are set, it will be your turn to participate. Challenge yourself and your family members through various games. A little friendly competition never hurt anybody! From testing your skills and technique to a simple test of strength, you are in for a wonderful time with your family.

Warning: Note that this is quite physical, so make sure you wear loose, casual clothes!

FAQ's

Is this a private activity?
It sure is. Your family members will be the only ones taking part in the activities, but there might be other people playing on other fields.
Do the parents participate?
Of course! Everyone will be breaking a sweat!
Is this a dangerous sport?
If you play by the rules and pay attention to the instructions given by your private coach, there is nothing dangerous about these highland activities. If you have back ache or any type of physical condition, please do let us know in advance so we can adapt the activities and choose the ones that can be adapted.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
These sports can be played by children under the age of 6, but it requires some good coordination skills. So if your young ones are into sports and have a lot of energy to spend, we can accept young children. Otherwise, it is better to set the minimum age to 6. Just remember that the instructor is not a baby sitter!
How can I get to the field?
The field where this introductory class takes place is located outside the city. If you do not want us to arrange a private transfer, you can always take a taxi. It will take about 30 to 45 minutes to get there depending on the traffic.
Do we need to bring special material?
No. All you need to bring is a big smile and the energy to play ball! In terms of clothes, make sure you wear comfortable sports clothes that you won’t mind staining.
Will my teenage kids like the activity?
If they are into sports and want to try something new, and typically Scottish, this is definitely something they will love.
