Description

Meet your private, experienced teacher at the entrance of the Kinloch Anderson Museum.  She will lead you through this charming museum in search of displays of ancient Scottish tartan attire where you will also view kilts are being made.  Kinloch Anderson is a sixth generation firm of manufacturers producing tartans of the highest quality. They also hold the Royal Warrant.

Once this 30-minute visit to the museum is over, hop into a private minivan to reach the design atelier.

You and your family are about to become new tartan designers. Your teacher will inspire you, based on what you have seen at the museum, to produce your own miniature tartan costumes.

Each member will have his/her picture taken which will form the basis of your two-dimensional design. Using traditional craft methods and a range of tartans, by the end of the workshop you will have produced your very own traditional Scottish highlander portrait with a twist.  This unusual masterpiece will be yours to keep.

FAQ's

Is this a private activity?
It sure is. Your family members will be the only ones taking this course, and you will have your own private art teacher. There might be other people visiting the museum through, as it is not made private.
Do the parents participate?
We promote a family-bonding moment, so parents and children will be participating equally. Everyone in the family will be designing their own miniature tartan costume.
How far is the atelier from the museum?
It will take 5 minutes with the minivan to reach the atelier where the hands-on part of this experience will take place.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
Children under the age of 6 might find it a little frustrating as the designing part of the activity requires a bit of skill and precision. But if you think your child is fit for the job, they are most welcome.
Do we need to bring special material?
No. All you need to bring is a big smile and the will to make a great miniature tartan costume.
Will my teenage kids like the activity?
This activity is more suitable for younger children, but if they are very creative and have a sense of fashion, any teenager will have a great time designing their miniature tartan costume.
