Description

Meet your private, scientific guide, in front of the Oceanographic Museum, one of the most iconic highlights of Monaco, and let them accompany you in this unique exploration of the world that lies below the oceans.

Built in 1878 right off the cliff of “Le Rocher”, the Oceanographic Museum is not only a museum: it is an active research center which was directed by famous oceanographer Jacques Yves Cousteau for many years.

The visit starts with the higher floors of the museum. Let your marine biologist tell you all about the birth of this world-famous research center and the history of ocean exploration. Meet face to face with some of the most impressive creatures of the sea.

After about 20 minutes, you will head down into the aquarium. There is no better place to learn about marine ecosystems than the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. Your marine biologist will explain how all the species are interconnected and the effect of man on these fragile ecosystems. To make it truly unique, follow your guide backstage and discover the other side of the water tanks.

Finally, you will be led to the tactile pool where an animator will let you touch some of the living organisms that can be found under water.

The mentioned price for this experience is for up to 5 participants. A supplement of 140 € will be applied for each additional participant.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco at the same time. The behind-the-scenes part and the tactile pool are private.
When is the best time to visit the Museum?
During the summer season and special holidays, it can be quite busy in the mornings. But with our skip-the-line tickets, you will be able to get in quickly.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a babysitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
It is possible to bring younger children inside the museum. They will surely be fascinated by the fish in the tanks, but might not understand everything about the ecosystems and the importance of marine biology. Keep an eye on your very young children.
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide skip-the-line tickets, but on very busy days, there might be a line for security checks which cannot be avoided. The wait should not last long though.
Once the tour is finished, can we stay inside the museum or go back in?
Of course, you are free to stay inside the museum if you wish to continue exploring it once the tour is finished. However, if you exit the building, you cannot go back in unless you purchase other tickets.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Yes, the Oceanographic Museum is wheelchair friendly and there are elevators to bring disabled people to the upper and lower floors. Strollers are welcome as well. However, during the behind-the-scenes part, wheelchairs or strollers will not be possible.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! Your guide, who happens to be a real marine biologist, will know how to keep everyone engaged, regardless of their age, and knowledge of marine wildlife and the ecosystems is important.
