Description
São Jorge Castle (Saint George Castle) is one of the iconic landmarks of Lisbon, as it perched up on a hill and visible from all sides of the city. Below it lies the district of Alfama, which still has traces of its Moorish past.
Meet your private, fully-licensed guide at the entrance of São Jorge Castle and follow them into this impenetrable fortress. After taking a look at the beautiful view offered from the Castle’s terrace, let your guide take you inside the castle and tell you all about its history, strategic placement and construction.
Once this is over, make your way downhill through the quaint narrow streets of Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon. Luckily, this neighborhood was not destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and still bears the traces of its Moorish past. Among the curiosities here, you will visit the inside of the Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), the oldest church in the city.
The tour ends on the beautiful Praça do Comércio, once the location of the Royal Ribeira Palace until it was destroyed by the famous earthquake.
A fun-filled game booklet will be handed out to each child to keep them engaged and entertained throughout the walking tour.
