Meet your private, experienced art teacher and enjoy this fun-filled hands-on workshop as a family by creating your own fresco painting.

First, let them explain the beauty and challenges of fresco painting, a technique used by so many painters of the past, including Michelangelo, the Italian artist who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Then, choose the design you want to reproduce on the stone. Each member of your family will be able to choose his or her favorite design and follow the clear instructions of the art teacher to create a fabulous fresco. You’ll see that painting on wet limestone and sand is quite a challenge!

Once the coating is applied, it will take a few minutes to dry so that both the pigments and the colors will have penetrated the stone. Each member of your family will leave this private workshop with a self-made fresco à la Michelangelo.

Is this a private activity?
It sure is. Your family members will be the only ones in the art workshop, along with your private art teacher.
Do the parents participate?
Of course! Everyone will be creating their own small Roman fresco. That is the fun part!
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
Fresco painting is quite difficult, and children under 6 might not have the level of precision required to do a good job. However, they can participate by teaming up with a parent.
Can I create a fresco that is not an Ancient Roman pattern?
The idea of this workshop is to introduce you and your family to Roman frescoes, which you will find in many of the old Roman monuments seen in the city as well as inside the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican. But should you want to do something different, you are more than welcome to. At the end, creating a family-bonding moment where everyone enjoys themselves is what matters most.
Do I need to bring special material?
No! You don’t need to bring anything as all the material is prepared for you.
Are we leaving the workshop with anything?
Of course, you will leave the workshop with your creations. We will make sure that these do not become too bulky, so you can easily put them in your suitcase when going back home.
Will my teenage kids like the activity?
If they like arts & crafts, they will love this hands-on activity. It is fun, and interesting. With this hands-on workshop, the teenagers will realize how difficult it was for Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling!
