Description

Meet your private, fully licensed guide at the entrance of Pompeii (Porta Marina Superior) and let them take you through the ruins of this ancient Roman city. They will tell you all about the life of its inhabitants 2,000 years ago and their tragic fate following the explosion of Mt. Vesuvius in 79BC.

After entering the ancient city through what remains of the fortification walls, let your guide take you to some of the key areas of the city: the forum, which was the heart of the city, the “basilica” (which, in those times, was not a church, but a tribunal), the thermal baths, a few houses and shops, and the theater.

You will also hear about the way people lived at that time, and see that the Roman civilization was already very developed and modern.

To keep the children engaged and entertained throughout this 3-hour visit, they will each get a game booklet. This will help them learn about the secrets of Pompeii, the excavation works and the explosion in 79BC while having fun.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting the archaeological site at the same time.
When is the best time to visit Pompeii?
During the summer season and special holidays, it is better to visit Pompeii in the afternoon (after 4PM) to avoid the crowds and the hot summer sun.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend this museum visit for kids aged 6 or older, because they must know how to read and write in order to enjoy the fun-filled game booklet. Younger children can participate, but they will need the help of the parents or older siblings to finish the quest.
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide skip-the-line tickets so there won’t be any waiting in line unless there are security checks at the entrance.
Once the tour is finished, can we stay inside the archaeological site or go back in?
Of course, you are free to stay inside Pompeii if you wish to continue exploring it once the tour is finished. Because of time constraints, our tour cannot cover the whole area, so we highly recommend staying a while longer. However, if you exit the site, you will not be able to go back inside.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
This activity is not recommended for wheelchairs nor strollers as the roads are paved (ancient roman style) and it is very difficult to navigate. There is a special path for people with reduced mobility, but it does not cover the highlights seen in our tour. Our guides will be happy to adapt, but unfortunately in this case, there will not be any game booklets.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour.
