Description

Villa d’Este is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Tivoli, a small town perched in the mountains in the outskirts of Rome. Its location makes it the perfect visit on a hot day in Rome, as the temperatures are cooler. This led the Cardinal d’Este to have his summer residence built here.

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and let them tell you all about this beautiful 16th century villa, famed for its magnificent gardens and profusion of fountains.

Follow your guide inside the villa itself, and listen to the fascinating stories about its history, architecture, decoration and furniture. Then, head outside to discover the real beauty of Villa d’Este: the gardens and the countless fountains, all in different shapes and sizes. There is even a musical fountain! The children will each get a game booklet to keep them engaged and entertained.

For a cultural visit combining both education and fun, don’t miss our Splendors of Villa d’Este tour.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting Villa d’Este at the same time.
How can I get to Villa d’Este?
There are trains that link Termini to Tivoli, and from there, you will have to walk downhill for 20 minutes to reach Villa d’Este. This is not really comfortable when traveling with children. The best and most comfortable way is to contact us so we can arrange transportation.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a babysitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
When is the best time to visit Villa d’Este?
During the busy months of summer, Villa d’Este can be very busy. For an optimal visit, plan to go there in May/June or September/October where the weather is nicer (cooler) and the crowds are smaller.
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
Bringing your very young children to Villa d’Este can be done, as they will enjoy running around in the gardens, but you’ll have to keep an eye on them. Remember that our guides are not babysitters.
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide skip-the-line tickets, but on very busy days, there might be a line for security checks which cannot be avoided.
Once the tour is finished, can we stay inside the villa?
Yes, of course you can. But once you leave the area, you cannot go back inside.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Villa d’Este and its gardens are stroller and wheelchair friendly.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! They might not want to have the game booklet, but since it is a private tour, our professional guide will adapt their speech to keep your teenagers engaged and entertained throughout the tour.
