Description

Meet your private, fully-licensed guide and chauffeur at your hotel and let them take you to the entrance of the Jerónimos Monastery. Your guide will provide you with tickets so that you will be able to enter this vast gothic monument.

Once inside, let your guide tell you all about the history of this architectural masterpiece and how it was used back in the day by the monks. After a fun-filled visit of the monastery, you will also be able to go inside the church where Vasco de Gama, the famous 16th century explorer (and first European to reach India by sea), and Luis de Camões, a famous poet, rest in peace for eternity.

Head out to the world-famous Pasteis de Belém bakery where the pastries of the same name were born. Follow your guide inside the pastry shop to witness the making of these sweet treats.

You will then get to the sail-shaped Discoveries Monument, dedicated to Portugal’s Golden Age. With the figures of the country’s most famous navigators, you will learn even more about these heros of the nation.

After a 15-minute walk, you will reach the Tower of Belém, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and probably the most iconic monument of Lisbon. No need to go inside this empty fortress as the most fascinating parts are outside. Listen to your guide as they tell you what it was built for and the stories behind the daring architecture and decoration.

To keep the children engaged and entertained throughout the tour, they will each get a fun-filled game booklet.

FAQ's

Is this tour private?
Yes, it is. No one else will be joining your private tour, and you will have your own private guide throughout the visit. However, there will be other people visiting the sights of Belém at the same time.
When is the best time to visit the Belém?
During the summer season and special holidays, there is no best time, as both the Monastery and the Tower are always very crowded unfortunately. Due to those big crowds, and the structure of the tower, it is not possible to visit the interior of the Tower during the tour.
Are the parents staying with the children or separated?
We always promote a family-bonding moment, where parents and children enjoy an activity together as a family. So, parents and children will not be separated. However, if you choose to send your children on this activity alone, it is possible, provided that a baby sitter accompanies the children regardless of the age, for insurance purposes (our guides are not responsible for the children).
Is it suitable for kids under 6 years old?
We recommend experiencing this activity with kids aged 6 and up as they have to know how to read and write in order to fully appreciate the game booklet. Younger kids are welcome to join, but they will probably need the help of their parents or siblings in order to complete the game booklet.
Will we have to wait in line?
We provide priority access tickets, but on very busy days, there might be a line for security checks which cannot be avoided. These areas might include some waiting time during high season.
Can I bring a stroller or a wheelchair?
Yes, it is possible to bring a stroller or wheelchair. However, some areas inside the Monastery will not be accessible.
Will my teenage kids like the tour?
Sure they will! These are 2 iconic landmarks of Lisbon, and the stories behind them are fascinating. Teenagers will therefore love this visit.
